Continuation: The Cultural Scene in Berlin
The
cultural scene is constantly on the move. The survival of the
numerous theatres, orchestras, choirs and other institutions must
be assured and this is no easy task in view of the limited
financial leeway. With an investment volume of over two billion
DM in the next ten years, Berlin is developing to be one of the
most important museum cities in the world. The new capital city
cultural agreement signed in September 1999 stipulates that the
federal subsidies for 1999 are to doubled from 60 to 120 million
DM. Up to the year 2003, Berlin will receive an extra 100 million
DM annually for the promotion of culture.
