Continuation: The Economy

As a joint project of the Berlin economic promotion company in conjunction with public and private partners, a Berlin-Location-Center (BLC) is being set up to encourage new investors from the region and from all over the world. The BLC provides assistance, advice and all information that is important to investors.

The BAO Berlin Marketing Service GmbH organises presentations of Berlin outside the city and advertises the Berlin-Brandenburg economic region. The company Partner für Berlin GmbH has presented and marketed the economic location and capital city of Berlin since 1994. It is sponsored by over 120 companies, and it is commissioned in the framework of a private-public partnership of the Senate with the capital city and economic location marketing company. The Berliner Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (BLEG) promotes the development of the city in the areas of residential accommodation, business, industry, services and infrastructure. It deals with land properties, develops them, provides land ready for building, provides advice in the approval procedure and the funding of projects and provides information on the available subsidies.

Because of its broad scientific infrastructure, Berlin has a supply of highly qualified personnel. More than 350,000 people in the city have university or college qualifications. Well over half of the employed persons in the city are younger than 40. About 132,000 students at the three universities and 13 colleges ensure that there is a future supply of qualified personnel for all important areas of work in the branches of trade and industry of the future, thus creating favourable conditions for companies oriented towards research and technology.
